Key terms
- 401 k- Plan is a type of employer-sponsored defined contribution retirement plan under section 401(k) of the Internal Revenue Code in the United States, and some other countries.
- 403 b- plan is a tax-advantaged retirement savings plan available for public education organizations, some non-profit employers (only US Tax Code 501(c)(3) organizations), and self-employed ministers in the United States.
- ADR's- American Deposit Receipt represents ownership in the shares of a foreign company trading on US financial markets
- Bid- This is the highest price that a buyer is willing to pay for a stock
- Blue Chip- is the stock of a well-established company having stable earnings and no extensive liabilities
- Book Value- This is the value of a company if assets and common stock equity are added together and all liabilities are subtracted.
- Broker- A person who buys or sells stocks, bonds, commodities and such in exchange for a fee which is called commission
- CAC- French market stock index
- Capital- To an economist, capital means machinery, factories and inventory required to produce other products. To investors, capital means their cash plus the financial assets they have invested in securities, their home and other fixed assets
- DAX- is a Blue Chip stock market index consisting of the 30 major German companies trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
- Dividend- A taxable payment declared by a company's board of directors
- Face Value- The cash denomination of the individual debt instrument. It is the amount of money that the holder of a debt instrument receives back from the issuer on the debt instrument's maturity date. Face value is also referred to as par value or principal.
- FTSE- is a share index of the 100 most highly capitalised companies listed on the London Stock Exchange.
- Investment- The purchase or ownership of a security in order to earn income, capital or both. Investments may also include artwork, antiques and real estate.
- NASDAQ- This is a stock exchange consisting primarily of technology companies
- RETI- Real Estate Investment Trust
- Shares- is a unit of account for various financial instruments including stocks, mutual funds, limited partnerships, and REIT's
- Stock- This is the smallest measurable unit of ownership in a company.
